Forest Bloom School Location

Forest Bloom Outdoor School wants to take advantage of the incredible natural diversity San Francisco has to offer. As such we will use both Golden Gate Park as well as the Presidio as our stomping grounds. We will dedicate approximately half to three-quarters of the month to locations within Golden Gate Park, and the rest of the time to the Presidio, depending on the interest of the children and projects we undertake.

The California Academy of Sciences and the Hagiwara Tea Garden, as well as the Andy Goldsworthy Wood Line and the Randall Museum are some of our favourite places to inspire and connect the children to the various natural environments in their urban surroundings.

We will send out an email at the end of each week detailing the coming weeks’ location and activities. There will be special outings to local museums also for special exhibitions or when the weather is exceptionally challenging.

Lunch and Snack

Children should bring a snack and a lunch each day. The lunch should fit inside their backpack, along with a water bottle. On cold days, a thermos of hot soup, tea, or hot chocolate is a good idea too. You may pack any foods you wish for your child; at this time, we do not restrict any specific foods. If your child has a food allergy that could be triggered by being exposed to a specific food, please let us know and we can make a plan to best provide for your child.

Snack Ideas

Fruits, veggies, whole grain crackers, rice cakes, cheese. Please be mindful that we are trying to create as little waste as possible. Please pack snacks and lunch in reusable containers whenever possible.

On cold days we will offer children warm drinks and herbal tea.

We may be able to occasionally do some simple cooking projects. Some recipes may include store-bought ingredients. Please be sure to let us know of any allergies or other food restrictions for your child. We will try to give advance notice before.
